Medellín, Colombia, 1985. Javier is a visual artist from the Popular Institute of Culture and an independent researcher in philosophy, psychology, narrative arcs, and ancient civilizations. Self-taught by nature, he approached cinema as the perfect encounter between arts and philosophy, thus creating his first film, the experimental medium-length film "Reterritorialización" (2007), a unique perspective on the armed conflict in Colombia that also won several national awards for best experimental work. Since then, he has participated as a screenwriter, photographer, director, and editor in various fiction short films, documentaries, music videos, and advertising pieces. Notable among these are the short films made in the Ecuadorian jungle with Extraliminal Productions (a company of which he is a founding partner) for the British foundation Wellcome Trust, and their Public Engagement call: "Kepe Pajta" and "El Shupa" (2009); the documentary for the Departmental System of Protected Areas of Valle del Cauca, and the feature film for television "Los Bosques Invisibles" (2013) in association with Célula Films.
From 2008 to 2015, Javier was the artistic director, curator, and producer of the CineToro International Experimentation Festival, a film event dedicated to promoting and fostering experimentation in cinema, which he managed to position as one of the most important in the country in its genre.
At Extraliminal, Javier developed an educational project called TESMA (Workshops of Sensitive Experimentation in Audiovisual Media), which was implemented in different rural and semi-urban communities, supporting and enhancing film education in the region: Toro, Valle del Cauca (2007). Zapallo Grande, Esmeralda coasts, Ecuador (2009). Yumbo, Valle del Cauca (2010). El Águila, Valle del Cauca (2012). Roldanillo, Valle del Cauca (2013 - 2014).
Currently, Javier is working on the development of the fiction feature film "LA PLAGA," the distribution of the short film "Alfor el Errante," and the development of the short film "La Salida," all produced by Extraliminal Productions.
